Covid 19 Policy

Heidi Horn Driving School Covid-19 Policy and safe system of work

What is Coronavirus?

Coronavirus are a large family of viruses which may cause illness in animals or humans. In humans, several coronaviruses are known to cause respiratory infections ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases. The latest corona virus disease is COVID-19.

Symptoms

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness and a dry cough. Some people may have aches and pains a sore throat and loss of taste. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don’t feel unwell. Most people recover from the disease without needing specialist treatment. However some can become seriously ill and develop breathing difficulties. Older people and those with underlying health conditions are more likely to develop more serious illness.

How is COVID-19 spread?

Covid-19 is mainly transmitted through direct contact with respiratory droplets rather than through the air. The droplets from the nose and mouth are spread when a person coughs or exhales. Other people can then caught COVID-19 by touching the objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth. People can also caught COVID-19 if they breath in droplets from a person who coughs that has COVID-19.

Safe system of work for activities being undertaken at Heidi Horn Driving School

1. Anyone with any of the symptoms detailed above : New temperature, cough and sore throat will not be permitted to work. They must self isolate for 7 days.

2. All persons working will adopt high standard of personal hygiene. Hands must be washed thoroughly throughout the day. Before entering the vehicle ensure hands are washed and where possible use sanitising gel after.

3. Clients entering the vehicle is by appointment only. The client will be asked to wash their hands before entering the vehicle and to apply antibacterial gel.

4. It is important to limit the amount of ‘face to face time’. Therefore all clients will be contacted before lessons. Anyone who has has corona virus symptoms or a positive corona virus test in the last 14 days will not be able to take a lesson. If the client is in a vulnerable group or who has family members who are at risk, the instructor will make an informed decision on whether it is appropriate to teach the client.

5. Any contact surfaces touched will be cleaned with antibacterial spray and disposable cloths or wipes to minimise the risk of infection. This must be undertaken every time the vehicle is used. A full cleaning schedule along with cleaning products to be used will be adhered to. Where possible an antibacterial spray which meets BSEN1276 or BSEN13697 will be used.

6. The following contact surfaces will be cleaned : Door handles inside and out, window controls, seat adjusters, steering wheel, and steering wheel height adjuster, parking brake, gear lever, bonnet clip, indicator and wiper stalks and light controls. This will be undertaken before / after each lesson.

7. Instructors should avoid touching their eyes nose and mouth. Hands should be washed with soap and water for at least 20 seconds after each job. A face covering will be worn at all times, by both instructor and the client.

8. Clothing. The instructor will wear long sleeved tops. Where this is not possible the arms will be washed between clients.

9. Any instructor who feels unwell should stop treatment and cancel further treatments.

10. The spread of covid-19 is mainly airborne or by droplet. Therefore, it is important to have ventilation in the vehicle. Windows will be open to allow for effective ventilation.

11. In order to ensure effective public health controls, the number of people in the vehicle should be kept to a minimum. Where possible only the client receiving instruction should enter the vehicle, family or friends should remain outside.

12. Booking of appointments. Instructors need to ensure that there is time between clients to allow for the vehicle to be thoroughly cleaned and for the air to flow. It is suggested that there is a least 30 minutes between clients.

13. A diary will be kept with client's names and contacts to enable contact tracing.

14. The COVID-19 advice on the spread of the disease is evolving therefore government guidance will be checked to ensure safety measures are adhered to.
